Maintain Insurance Whether it is medical or dental insurance, maintaining insurance is VERY important. One small mishap could be brutal financially to an already stressful situation. Personal/Medical insurance, homeowner insurance, dental insurance, and even renters insurance. Personal or medical insurance - Many times when you leave a company, they will offer you an insurance product. COBRA is a popular one. Having a girl-friend who recently lost her job, we priced COBRA - $450 a month, and also checked with some insurance brokers - $185 a month. It pays to shop around. Homeowner and renters insurance - Most people pay homeowners insurance, as it is required by most lenders, however many people do not even think about renters insurance. If you rent, contact an agent and see what they would charge to insure your contents in an apt. Many times, these can cost $200 or so a year. You are not insuring the dwelling, but only the contents. It is well worth the price. Dental insurance - We all get fillings, cleanings, and some of us get crowns or root canals. Yes, speaking from personal experience on that one. Dental costs can be VERY high. Between jobs, you may want to carry dental insurance. The costs are usually minimal, but again - you are insuring against anything bad that could happen. Insurance, many times, is not required.
